Project type
Sculpture Installation
Date
2024
Location
Singapore
"Echo" is a site-specific multi sensory sculpture installation inspired by the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (TPRS).
As Singapore’s 64th national monument, with its history and cultural significance, TPRS serves as an inspiration to encapsulate the essence of the railway's legacy – showcasing the intersection of progress and preservation.
Created using materials from the railway station, recorded sounds of trains & light, the artwork recreates the sensation of a train passing through the station. Imprinted on the rocks are Mantling elements of the coat-of-arms from Federated Malay States and the Straits Settlements. This is a depiction of protection.
This is the artist's attempt to preserve a part of history in spite of the redevelopments, a reflection of time & progress of this historical monument.
